ABOUT THE AUTHOR

(Howard Bryant)

Author Howard Bryant was born November 13, 1944 in McDonough, Georgia, a small town similar to the setting he selected for his new book, Murder in Cahill.  At the age of fourteen, his family moved to Atlanta, Georgia and later to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where he attended an integrated school for the first time.  After graduating from high school he worked in the manufacturing and construction industries for a few months.  His employment was cut short by his call to active duty in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War where he proudly served his country.

After leaving the U.S. Navy he went to work for the local Harrisburg newspaper.  At the time of his job offer at the newspaper, he made it clear to his employer that he had no desire to remain in the newspaper business.  Although his boss at the newspaper understood that he was still looking for work elsewhere, he hired him anyway.

A month later he found the perfect job.  It was with a major information technology company with excellent pay and benefits.  He informed his boss at the newspaper that he had found a new job and gave his two weeks’ notice.  His current boss hated to see him go.  As an enticement for Mr. Bryant to stay on, he offered additional incentives.  However, the incentives being offered were pale in comparison to what the new employer was offering.  Needless to say, Mr. Bryant took the new job.  Although he started at the entry level, promotions came relatively quickly.  After working his way through several administrative and staff positions, he rose to management with enormous responsibilities key employees and a multi-million dollar operating budget and billions of dollars in inventory.  After a long and rewarding career, Mr. Bryant retired at the age of fifty three with more than thirty years of service.

After retirement, Mr. Bryant found comfort and enjoyment in reading.  He began frequenting the local library, reading one book after another.  This is where he became interested in writing.  He began writing his first book, “Reflections Along the Pathways of Life” in 2002 and published it in 2004.  “Reflections Along the Pathways of Life” is a compilation of Mr. Bryant’s thoughts, ideas and real life experiences.  He points out many issues that are common to all of us and in some cases he offers alternatives and solutions for the reader to consider.

In his most recent book, “Murder in Cahill”, which was released in June 2010, he highlights many of the perils Negroes had to endure during the 40’s and 50’s in a small southern town.  He attempts to give the modern day reader a perspective of how life was for African-Americans (Negroes) during that period of time.  Growing up in such an environment, Mr. Bryant has firsthand knowledge of the injustices that took place in the south.  His desire is to establish a benchmark for the current generation to use as measurement of progress made over the last forty or fifty years.

Mr. Bryant enjoys writing because it allows him to release the creativity that has been bottled up and untapped for years.  At the same time, it gives him an opportunity to bring to light a sampling of American History that is often overlooked during the education process.
