Biographic Sketch of William Speir:

William Speir was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1962, and graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1984.  He has been a management consultant and leader for almost 25 years, specializing in the human impact to change.  Whether this change is as simple as the introduction of new technology into an organization or as complex as a major restructuring of a company's operations, the way people work and interact with each other is impacted.  For a change to succeed, people have to be prepared for that change.  This has been William's focus for most of his professional career.  He has worked for companies and with clients across the United States, Canada, Bermuda, and the United Kingdom.  He has lived in Alabama, Michigan, Texas, Connecticut, and Florida.

William has helped start a number of non-profit corporations, and holds officer and director positions in several cultural and historic organizations.  He is a Civil War Reenactor and is heavily involved with battlefield and historic site preservation.

William currently resides in Orlando, Florida with his wife, Lee Anne. He has two children (Sonya and Brad), and a cat named "Major" (a gray Maine Coon named for Major John Pelham, J. E. B. Stuart's chief of artillery).

William Speir as an Author:

William is a published author of several articles and publications on leadership and the human impact to change.

William is also a published author of eight textbooks on the types, nomenclature, capabilities and deployment of field artillery in the 19th century.  He teaches artillery safety to Civil War Reenactors as part of the Instructor Cadre of the Loyal Train of Artillery Chapter of the United States Field Artillery Association Artillery Schools, which use the textbooks that William wrote.

William has always found writing to be a relaxing activity – a way to take ideas and  stories from his head and put them on paper so they can be better developed, refined, completed, and shared with others.  William had attempted writing fiction before, but felt he lacked the life experiences to carry an entire novel.  It was ten years from his last attempt at writing fiction before he began work on the Order of the Saltier Trilogy.

Writing the Order of the Saltier Trilogy:

The Order of the Saltier Trilogy is William's first serious work of fiction, and reflects William's fascination with secret societies, knights and orders of knighthood throughout the ages.

In August 2009, William had just finished watching a number of television specials about the various secret societies to which many people believe the Founding Fathers of the United States belonged, as well as several shows about the Knights Templar and what happened to them, when the question came to him: “what would a secret society based loosely on the early crusading knighthood orders look like today and what activities would it perform to be relevant in modern times?”  He sat down and began creating a group called the “Order of the Saltier.”  He developed everything about the Order – the symbols, the rules and governing structures, the ceremonies, the regalia of the officers and ranks, the Order’s aims and purposes, and the activities the Order would perform.  Once he had the Order fully defined, the ideas for the first book began coming to him.

Some of the events in the book are based on William’s own life, but set in the context of this secret society.  Originally, William was only planning on writing the one book, but some of the people he let read the early manuscript drafts pointed out that he could easily write a series of books about the Order and the characters he had developed.  The ideas for Books 2 and 3 came to him almost immediately after that, and he completed the Trilogy in January 2010.

From a genre perspective, Book 1 leans more towards Crime Drama since the main action concerns the Order’s efforts to bring down a large crime syndicate.  Books 2 and 3 (Crusaders of the Saltier and Protectors of the Saltier) are more Political Intrigue and Terrorism since the main action concerns the Order’s efforts to thwart an attempt by criminals to infiltrate the government.

Right now, William is working on the marketing of Book 1 and working to get Books 2 & 3 printed and distributed for sale.   He has also started working on the second trilogy involving the Order of the Saltier called the Quest of the Saltier Trilogy (The Lost Knights, The Knights’ Crucible, and The Knights Victorious).  This new trilogy will involve the same core characters, and will be set mostly in Europe.

"The questions about God, His need to create an anti-God, journey of souls through various lifetimes, significance of religion in life, true meaning of our lives - all these and more are answered beautifully through the writer's own experiences....A unique way of presentation....Many self-help books fall in an easy trap of long lists of "to do" and "not to do" things. It feels good while reading them but scarcely do they become a part of the thought process. 'Who Stole my Soul?' very neatly refuses to take this bait...the unique way of presentation makes the process of self discovery with more lasting impressions on the mind."

-          Vibha Sharma, Literary Sojourn

Numerous quotes from writers of all cultural persuasions are spread throughout the text, making one realize that much research has gone into this work which offers a goldmine in its flip but potent style...Nicely done, Vishwa Prakash!"

"... one cannot argue that this book is presented well. It has a beautiful cover and pictures inside to help instill faith in all of us...A great book to read and enjoy..."

-          Jessica Roberts, Bookpleasures.com

"The questions about God, His need to create an anti-God, journey of souls through various lifetimes, significance of religion in life, true meaning of our lives - all these and more are answered beautifully through the writer's own experiences....A unique way of presentation....Many self-help books fall in an easy trap of long lists of "to do" and "not to do" things. It feels good while reading them but scarcely do they become a part of the thought process. 'Who Stole my Soul?' very neatly refuses to take this bait...the unique way of presentation makes the process of self discovery with more lasting impressions on the mind."
